John Clair Watts
John is a sculptor who experiments with contrasts of materials and surfaces. He uses contemporary materials such as plastics, solid state electronics, glass and polished metal, often incorporating found or recycled objects. He combines hard metals with the human element, which is the very reason he sculpts. John feels that the state of being, psychologically and spiritually is fascinating and that people are mutual beings within a mutable system looking for external constants.
John Clair Watts was born on August 1, 1948 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 1979 he graduated with honours (a BFA) in the Department of Fine Arts at The University of British Columbia. Currently he lives on a converted gill netter and works in his studio in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"Sculptors are like magicians - breathing life into sterile materials."
